Lawmakers decry shortage of doctors
KARACHI: Lawmakers in Sindh Assembly yesterday expressed concern over acute shortage of doctors in government hospitals of the province, saying poor people have been facing immense problems due to non-availability of doctors in government-run healthcare centers, especially in the rural areas.
MQM MPA Sauifuddin Khalid and Amir Haider Shah Sheerazi in their separate call attention notices said the government healthcare centers have been facing shortage of doctors and paramedics and people have to suffer a lot. Giving examples of Mansoor Nagar Hospital Orangi and Shaiky Zayed Hospital Mirpur Sakro, they demanded appointing doctors against vacant posts. They also complained that many government doctors run private clinics during their official duty hours.
The movers regretted that in rural areas the healthcare facilities are almost zero. They said serious patients often die on way while being shifted to the hospitals of big towns and cities. —PPI
