65129 cops to perform duties during Muharram in Sindh

KARACHI: Inspector General of Sindh Police, A.D Khawaja was told yesterday that as many as 65129 policemen are assigned for deployment across under the Muharram Contingency Plan. It was informed to the Sindh Police chief in a report regarding police deployment on the occasion of Muharram-ul-Harram in Sindh including Karachi range, said a police statement. The IGP Sindh has directed all DIGs to personally review the overall security arrangements on all majalis, processions, mosques, Imambargahs as well as on the venues and routes of all small and main mourning processions and majalis during Muharram-ul-Harram. He has also directed to DIGs to also ensure briefing to the officials concerned regarding security arrangements on the occasion of Muharram. The report said that 2914 vehicles, 7939 personnel of Reserved police, 2914 personnel on motorcycles, 6834 personnel on mobile vans of police while 9444 pickets are part of Muharram security plan all over Sindh province. It said that as many as 1506 police personnel on mobile vans and 1436 on motorcycle will patrolling on and in surroundings of the venues of Majalis and routes of processions as well as mosques and Imambargahs. The report also said that as many as 9912 police officials and personnel in Karachi, 12947 in Hyderabad, 4211 in Mirpurkhas, 9145 in Shaheed Benazirabad, 12250 in Sukkur while 16664 in Larkana are assigned on security arrangement on Muharram. It has also pointed out that setting up of 578 pickets in Karachi, 2657 in Hyderabad, 357 in Mirpurkhas, 1852 in Shaheed Benazirabad, 1619 in Sukkur while 2381 in Larkana, respectively all over Sindh are part of Muharram Contingency plan. The IGP Sindh was informed that as many as 14563 Majalis will be organised in Sindh while 4281 processions will be taken out across the province on the occasion of Muharram. The security arrangements will be made at all 1932 imambargahs all over Sindh include 353 in Karachi, 584 in Hyderabad, 118 in Mirpurkhas, 93 in Shaheed Benazirabad, 374 in Sukkur and 410 in Larkana.
