21st Convocation of Hamdard University held

KARACHI: The 21st Convocation of Hamdard University (HU) was held here yesterday and at least 1,395 degrees were awarded to the successful graduates at Madinat al-Hikmah. The recipients included 817, absentia 578, including 13 PhDs and 56 MPhils. Apart from degrees 26 Hamdard University Gold Medals, 8 Shaheed Hakim Muhammed Said Gold Medals and 7 gold medals from Institute of Engineering were also distributed to the students stood in first position. The Consul General of Japan Toshikazu Isomura, Chancellor HU Sadia Rashid and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr Hakim Abdul Hannan gave away the degrees and gold medals to the successful students. Addressing on the occasion, the Chancellor Sadia Rashid congratulated the students and told them that their success was the fruit of struggles and sacrifices of parents as well as teachers. She said, “I am sure the graduates present in this convocation will prove to be good ambassadors of the mission of Shaheed Mohammed Said.” She said that Hamdard was founded in 1906 in Delhi by Hakim Abdul Majeed. Shaheed Hakim Muhammed Said founded Hamdard in Karachi in 1948 in a modest way but his personal dynamics and hard labour made Hamdard a big enterprise of national repute.
