SC issues contempt notice to Interior Sect on Dr Asim’s petition
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) today issued a contempt of court notice to the Interior Secretary on a petition filed by Pakistan Peoples’ Party leader Dr Asim Hussain on account of non-removal of his name from the exit control list (ECL).
It is pertinent to mention here that Dr Asim filed a petition earlier this week, in which he requested the apex court to initiate the contempt proceedings against the Interior Ministry as it failed to remove his name from the no-fly list despite Supreme Court’s order on Nov 16.
Dr Asim made a request for removal of his name from the ECL with a view to travel abroad for medical treatment once again.
Moreover, Dr Asim’s lawyer Sardar Latif Khosa told the court on Wednesday this week that his client’s flight which was originally scheduled for Nov 9 and then rescheduled to Nov 21 had been missed and also his appointment for a medical examination in the United Kingdom scheduled for the same day was cancelled, as Interior Ministry failed to remove his name from the ECL.
Subsequently, the court issued a notice to the interior secretary after adjourning the case until Nov 29.
