Mirwaiz, other leaders arrested in IoK
ISLAMABAD: The Indian police arrested the Chairman of Hurriyat forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, as he attempted to defy restrictions to march towards Islamabad town where the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) has called a public rally.
A posse of Indian policemen deployed outside Mirwaiz Umar Farooq’s Nigeen residence, where he was under house arrest, took him into custody when he tried to defy the restrictions. The Mirwaiz was lodged at Nigeen Police Station, Kashmir Media Service yesterday reported. The JRL comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik has called for a massive public gathering at Lal Chowk in Islamabad town, against the stepped up Indian state terrorism in the occupied territory and to express solidarity with the people of south Kashmir who continue to face the worst brunt of the Indian brutalities.
The police took several Hurriyat leaders and activists including Hilal Ahmed War into custody from Magam when they were on their way to Islamabad town, today. The police had arrested Hurriyat leaders, Maulana Mudassir Nadvi, Umar Aadil Dar and Abdul Ahad in Islamabad town, last night.-Agencies
