UK STARTS CAPACITY ASSESSMENT OF LOCAL UNIVERSITIES

KARACHI: UK universities have started capacity assessment of Pakistani Universities which are likely to be part of the programme between the Sindh Inter University Consortium and UK universities. The programme, incorporated in recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) between the two, aims at developing mutual collaboration for promotion of higher education and bringing the costs of studies abroad to the lowest. Hastings McKenzie Dean of Academic Partnerships at the University of Northampton UK, has arrived Pakistan. During his seven-day stay, he will visit different local universities. Yesterday, Mr Hastings visited the City Campus and the Main Campus of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto University of Law (SZABUL). In the city campus, he inspected the library and different departments and exchanged views with the students, the faculty members and the administrative staff of SZABUL. Prime purpose of the meetings and the inspections was to ascertain effectiveness of the curriculum, level of pedagogy maintained in the class rooms and the facilities being extended by the university to its students. The SZABUL curriculum has been redesigned in line with the syllabi of UK universities under the MoUs. The MoUs, dully approved by the Sindh government and the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan are awaiting final nod from the Federal Government for their implementation. Later, Hastings, in the company of founding Vice Chancellor Justice Rtd Qazi Khalid Ali and Director Finance Amir Bashir and Mushahid Zuberi, went to the under construction main campus of the university in Korangi where he was briefed by Project Director Hasan Askari, Executive Engineer Jameel Memon about the project and progress made so far in terms of development of the site and construction of the main building. The visiting Dean also ascertained the details of Dr Ishrat ul Ibad Research Institute Project.
