Ways you can prevent breast cancer from reappearing

Breast cancer survivors often live in fear of recurrence. Even after the treatment, there are fair chances that breast cancer may occur again and affect the survivor. Cancer-causing cells can migrate to other body parts, making the survivor susceptible to the disease.

Be compliant to your medication: Taking your medication on time helps in lowering the risk of recurrence. The prescribed medicine mostly contains anti-estrogen agents and aromatase inhibitors which prevents the recurrence of breast cancer. As women might experience some side effects, they stop taking the medicines. Before you do this, seek your doctor’s advice.

Increase your intake of Vitamin C and D: Increasing foods that are loaded with Vitamin C can help in lowering the chances of breast cancer recurrence. And for Vitamin D, if your doctor prescribes, go for the supplements. It should be noted that women who have low levels of vitamin D can experience dangerous cancer outcomes.

Alter your eating habits: You should not stay empty stomach for a longer duration. Try to eat dinner early in the evening and have breakfast around 9. According to a study, it was proved that women who opted this habit lowered the risk of breast cancer recurrence.

Avoid drinking in excess: Avoid drinking or drink in moderation. This is reasonable and safe for the breast cancer survivors.

Maintain an ideal weight: Being overweight is another condition that could trigger the recurrence of breast cancer. When you are on the cancer medication, it requires a healthy diet and active lifestyle. Not adhering to these conditions might increase the chances of breast cancer recurrence.

Exercise: As important as for any other person, breast cancer survivors shouldn’t ignore their physical health. They should in fact develop a healthy workout regime. They might find it difficult to move their body after surviving from cancer, but exercising becomes of utmost importance for them. Exercise reduces inflammation and also eliminates the hormones that could be responsible for the recurrence of breast cancer.
