PM Abbasi announces Rs25bn package for Karachi

KARACHI: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi announced Rs 25 billion package for Karachi yesterday.  The prime minister held a press conference at the Governor House during his visit to Karachi. Abbasi announced a Rs 25 billion package for Karachi, stating that peace had been restored in the metropolis but now it was time to maintain it. He said that Rangers would continue to keep the peace in Karachi and the federation would provide them with the resources needed to do so. He said that there was also a package for the supply of clean water in Karachi. “Investment is increasing as a result of peace in Karachi,” he said. “The problems of the business community will also be solved,” he added. Abbasi said that MQM had supported him in the parliament without any conditions or demanded anything in return. He said that MQM had voted for him in the parliamentary election for the prime minister for the sake of democracy. “MQM just expressed their complaints to me,” he said. “We will strive to ensure that we solve those problems in accordance with the law,” he added. He said that according to the law, the government would try to solve the problems of every political party in the country. Abbasi said that development works were the responsibility of provincial governments and said that the federal government would try to solve problems of the provinces. This was Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s first visit to Karachi after assuming the office of the country’s prime minister.
