Policemen loses job for torturing elderly couple in Multan

From Our Correspondent

MULTAN: The Punjab government on Thursday removed policemen from police service who tortured elderly couple in Multan a few days ago. Taking strict action against the policemen, a DSP, sub-inspector and ASI, Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif has sacked them. “Those involved in heart rendering incident have no right to stay in public service. I am deeply aggrieved over the incident. They should be ashamed of treating poor like this,” he said in a meeting with the victims Muhammed Idrees, his wife Naseem Bibi and daughter Madiha. Police roughly handled an elderly couple in Multan on Monday and released them after a brief detention. The CM said he would take the matter to its conclusion. Was justice a right of rich only? Were they tortured because they were poor? he asked. The CM assured the couple of justice and sought report from committee comprising a senior member Board of Revenue and member P&D Babar Hayat Tarar. “I was hugely pained when I learnt of maltreatment of an elderly couple at the hands of some police officials in Multan. Such an attitude is intolerable. Nothing is above human dignity” he said. “While we rightly condemn individual act, it is not correct to generalize their behavior. Our police have rendered many sacrifices in the war on terror and we are proud of those laying their lives in the line of duty,” he added.
