ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an alert of floods during monsoon due to frequent rains in the northern areas. PMD said prolonged rains in the upper regions of the country could result in devastating floods in KPK and Gilgit Baltistan. PMD has warned of the floods in these areas and asked the relevant authorities to take precautionary measures. National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has hosted a conference for monsoon, named “National Monsoon Preparedness Conference 2017”, for this purpose where representatives of the Met Office were also present. PMD warned that there will be an alarming number of rainfalls in monsoon. The floods could also enter in the big cities and cause damage. Also, PMD officials issued an alert about the rising temperature in KP and GB. The heavy rains will pose a threat to the lakes in which storms could erupt. The land-sliding will also occur in mountain ranges which can cause damage to life and property. The conference was chaired by NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Omar Mahmood Hayat.
